Explore Cholistan

A wild maze of sand ridges and sand dunes, the Cholistan Desert is an excellent tourist destination of Pakistan. Although it is considered far-flung and remote, many people are now turning to the desert to enjoy jeep rallies and camping. The desert stretches over an area of over 26,000 sq km, and is inhabited nomadic and semi-nomadic people. To the east it extends into India while to the south lies the Thar Desert in Sindh. The nearby city of Bahawalpur (an erstwhile princely state founded in 1748 by Muhammad Bahawal Khan), the Drawar Fort, and the ruins of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization are the major tourist attractions in the area.
